Best Travel Apps of 2017

August 3, 2017

I think everyone can agree that traveling can be an overwhelming experience – especially in a foreign country where you don’t speak the language or have a taste for some of the local cuisine.

We understand the challenges people face when abroad and compiled this list of the best travel apps of 2017 to help you plan your trip with ease and use throughout your travels. These apps and similar apps have gotten me through trips all around Asia and Europe and are sure to help you wherever you go in the world. From booking hotel rooms to translating languages in real-time, this list has all the apps you need to get the best out of your vacation without the stress.

Language – Google Translate

Google Translate is a free translation tool that can be used in a variety of ways:

  • Tap the camera icon on the app and hold your smartphone’s camera lens up to the words you’d like translated – for instance, a menu item or street sign. In seconds the translation feature will transform the words on the sign into your desired language (30 languages).
  • Translate between 103 languages by typing, speaking, or drawing characters on your smartphone screen with your finger.
  • Offline: Translate with no internet connection (52 languages).

Dining – Trip Advisor

Finding good food abroad can be a challenge in a foreign city especially if you can’t read the menu. Trip Advisor makes it easy to find local favorites. The “travel app” has some of the most spot-on restaurant reviews around. Restaurants are ranked by location and show you the highest rated restaurants in town. In addition to restaurant recommendations, you can also find helpful reviews on things to do and places to stay at discounted rates.

Phone Calls – REBTEL

The most common apps for international calls and messages are Skype and Whatsapp, but both require a wifi connection to use them. The app consistently analyzes traffic to give you the lowest possible price for your call. Rebtel also offers free international calls between Rebtel app users.
